Trailfitters Trail Challenge FAQs
I’ve never heard about the Trail Challenge, how does this work?
The TFTC is a free event that encourages everyone of all skill levels to get outdoors &
explore the trails around them! What started as a small event for our own staff to
challenge each other and share some of their favorite trails, it’s grown over the last 9
years with 500+ people finishing in 2025!
We pick 9 different trails for you to hike during the allotted timeframe. To show that you
hiked the trails, we have you take a selfie at a designated location. Feel free to share
your adventures on Facebook & Instagram, tagging @trailfitters and using #tftc26 in the
caption!
Once you finish them all you are rewarded with a goody bag, and you get entered into a
weekly and overall giveaway drawing. There are some other fun prize category winners
as well as a Finisher Party at the end of the event for everyone in the community to
attend! We hope to see you there!
Where do I find out about the trails?
Once the trails are announced on the start date, you can find all the information for each
of the current year’s trails on our website here. In our store you can find posters and
paper handouts with information as well. We also have all of the trails posted on our
Facebook & Instagram pages.
How do I get to the trails?
Each trail’s page on our website here has a hyperlink that will pull up directions on
Google Maps to the trailhead. The hyperlink pin location is from our store, but you can
change the starting point to your current location.
How do I navigate my way on the trails?
Be aware that there may not be cell phone service at some of these locations. We
recommend taking a screenshot of the route’s directions on the trail’s page on our
website here, as well as a screenshot of the map. We also have physical paper maps of
the Superior Hiking Trail that can be purchased in the store at Trailfitters!
There are a few GPS map apps that can be used offline in case you don’t have service.
AllTrails, GAIA and Avenza are each trustworthy. The SHT even has their entire digital
map of the trail available on Avenza. GAIA is what we used to screenshot & highlight the trails. AllTrails is helpful in finding other nearby trails in addition to our Trail
Challenge trails.
How do I prove that I hiked the trails?
After you’ve finished hiking all 9 trails, you will have to check-in at the store here in
Duluth. Check-in is at the Men’s register near the Garmin display stand. We will need to
see your selfies from each photo spot, and we’ll also gather some contact information in
case you win a giveaway drawing.
To speed up the check-in process we recommend making a photo album on your phone
with the 9 selfies in it or making a post on Social Media with all of them together- please
tag @trailfitters in the post and use #tftc26 in the caption! Some TFTC Finishers have
even brought in printed off photos & collages to show off their fun hiking adventures!
How do I prove my Fastest Known Time (FKT) attempt?
When you check-in at the store to complete the Trail Challenge, we will need to see
your GPS tracking & times for each trail, in addition to your selfies from the photo spot.
We’ll add up your time for all 9 trails and put your total time on the leaderboard.
NOTE: You can only submit a FKT time ONCE! You can run the trails over as many times as
you’d like to try to get a faster time, but we’ll only accept one FKT submission per
person.
I Pre-Registered for the TFTC, when do I get the T-Shirt?
If you chose to Pre-Register for the Trail Challenge and completed your registration with
payment, you’ll get a T-Shirt in the size you provided on the registration form. T-Shirts
will be available for pick-up at the Finisher Party on Sunday, July 12th from 1-4 PM. If
you cannot attend the party, please contact us to make other arrangements.
What are the rewards for completing the Trail Challenge?
Besides the accomplishment of hiking 9 different trails, there are several other rewards!
Each person who completes the TFTC will get a goody bag with a Gift Card.
Every week each person who completes the TFTC will be entered into a weekly
giveaway.
- Everyone who completes the TFTC will be entered into a giveaway at the end of the
event. - The first person to complete the TFTC & check-in at the store gets a prize.
- The Fastest Known Time (FKT) for both Men’s & Women’s will get a prize.
- The largest group of people who finish the entire TFTC together will all get a prize.
- We’re also doing a photo contest for best selfie AND best landscape photo at Wolf
Lake. - There will be raffle prizes at the Finisher Party on Sunday, July 12th from 1-4 PM.
I don’t have Social Media, can I still finish the Trail Challenge?
Yes. You just need to check-in with your selfies from the marked photo spot on each
trail.
What do I do if I get lost?
First of all, don’t panic. The trails we feature are all on well-traveled and well-marked
areas. As long as you stay on the designated trails you should be just fine. The more
confusing spots might be in the State Parks where there are multiple trail crossing
intersections. See the How do I navigate my way on the trails? FAQ section for
helpful tips on how to better make your way through the trails.
